Top 5 Quentin Tarantino Films
Quentin Tarantino has made any number of great films in his years as a writer and director. Although many are controversial and criticized for their brutality, there is no doubt that all have been influential. Our top five movies are the ones that we consider to be his best work. If you haven’t seen any of the films listed here, be sure to make time to watch them – they are all must-sees.
Arguably Tarantino’s best film, Pulp Fiction is one of a kind. A unique combination of crime thriller films and comedy, Pulp Fiction tells three separate but ultimately overlapping stories.
The first main plotline we see is that of the two hit men Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) and Vincent Vega (John Travolta) who have a long discussion about feet before breaking into an apartment and narrowly escaping death. The second plotline is about Vincent Vega taking Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) out for the night. She also happens to be his boss’s wife with a drug problem. The last plotline follows boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) who is paid by Marcellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) to lose his match.
The events that occur are bizarre, over the top and extremely entertaining. If you want to see a film unlike any other, check out Pulp Fiction.
This film is the one that catapulted Quentin Tarantino from relative obscurity to an international household name. Released in 1992, Reservoir Dogs tell the story of a botched robbery by showing what happened before and after the crime, but never what happened during the crime. This interesting choice leaves a lot up to the viewer and unravelling the story is all the more interesting.
The film stars Lawrence Tierney as Joe Cabot, Harvey Keitel as Mr. White, Tim Roth as Mr. Orange, Steve Buscemi as Mr. Pink, Michael Madsen as Mr. Blonde and Quentin Tarantino as Mr. Brown.
After the robbery goes wrong, they are convinced there is an undercover cop among them and they have to try and figure out who’s the cop, all while Mr. Orange is slowly bleeding to death. It’s an entertaining and unusual movie that all Tarantino and action fans will love.
Kill Bill is without a doubt one of Tarantino’s more popular films. It follows the story of the unnamed protagonist (her name is revealed in Kill Bill Vol 2) who is simply referred to as The Bride. After brutal murders at her own wedding, The Bride wakes up in a hospital to find that she’s been in a coma for several years and that she lost her baby due to the brutal attacks. Filled with rage, she sets out on an epic quest for vengeance against the people who did this to her, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, an organization she was once a part of.
Kill Bill draws inspiration from martial art films in abundance. There are a lot of fast paced martial arts action scenes and the attention to detail when it comes to the fighting styles is commendable. This film transcends its genre as an action movie. Even people who don’t like action movies will have their eyes glued to the screen as they watch the plot unfold. It’s a must watch for everyone.
If you like Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 and have an affinity for martial arts films, check out ‘Dragon From Shaolin’ on Geeker!
If you like war films, you’ll love Inglorious Basterds. The Word War II film, which may have been inspired by true heroics, tells the story of a team of American soldiers planning to assassinate Nazis in occupied Europe. The soldiers cross paths with a woman who is secretly a Jewish refugee who had her entire family killed by Nazis. She plots her own revenge as the Basterds try to eradicate the same high ranking Nazis that she has set her sights on.
This is an intense action movie that will have you on the edge of your seat until the very last minute. It’s a definite must watch for all fans of war films.
Jackie Brown tells the story of the titular character as she manages to find herself tied up in the world of crime after agreeing to smuggle money and cocaine while she worked as an air hostess. After the police catch her, they offer her a deal if she helps them to arrest the man she was smuggling for. At the same time, he is plotting to kill her.
Jackie Brown is a high intensity crime thriller that will make your heart race and your palms sweat. It’s an excellent movie to introduce you to the world of Tarantino films and is great for action-junkies.
